Bellevue Washington BanquetDate: Saturday September 26th, 2009 ![]()
Purpose of the event:As much as 94% of the population of Guinea-Bissau, West Africa rely on Cashew nuts for part or all of their annual income. LEAD International is one of the only non-organizations working to develop the cashew processing industry. LEAD has already developed trade schools, processing companies, farmer co-ops, and renovated crucial components to improve the quality of Guinean product. LEAD International relies on individuals who want to help the poor, but prefer to do it through a business model, that not only gives, but also mentors people to multiply the donations provided. LEAD’s approach does more than simply send a percentage of the funds to the field. LEAD actually multiplies the resources so that they will bring an end to the cycle of poverty. How is this different than micro-finance? LEAD’s approach doesn’t charge interest. We invest through several means of equity sharing, profit sharing, and sales and distribution agreements. In the end, however, profits do not go to LEAD for use, they are returned to the communities from which they are earned. Our banquets are developed around inspiring themes. We provide updates on our progress, information that you can take home and a personal story from someone on the receiving end of LEAD’s mentorship. A request for your participation will be made at the end of the event. To attend: |
